Outdoor temperatures fluctuate with the changing seasons but underground temperatures don't. Four to six feet below the earth's surface, temperatures remain relatively constant year-round. A geothermal system, which typically consists of an indoor unit and a buried earth loop, capitalizes on these constant temperatures to provide "free" energy.
Every day the sun shines on the earth and warms the ground. Using a heat pump and a Ground Loop we extract the heat that is stored within the ground all around your home. At 5 feet below the surface the ground holds about 50°F. With the use of a refrigeration system, we exchange heat from the water in the Loop to the refrigerant in the heat pump.
